You can apply the eight house theory and study facing your best direction. On the other hand, make sure that your table is near to good lighting.
Under Traditional Feng Shui, if you can obtain a pagoda or a conical object place it on the top right hand corner of the table.
Question: I understand that it is not advisable to have open shelf but I do have one and I cannot afford to change one. Is there any remedy to it?
This is acceptable as it allows you convenience to browse thru your work. An open shelf is `more' in the situation where it faces your bed rather than the study table. In addition, you can easily "devise" a cloth cover to act as a screen. E.g. a clean sheet of towel or fabric. This will add as a dust protector.
