Dear Anon,
The more important consideration as you have mentioned is to try avoid having an `L' shape. It is thus better to `break' down the `L' into two square/rectangle shape.
It does not really matter here if you have to decide what to call the two `halves'. You can call one the main living room and the other any name. It really does not matter.
